This blogging world.

For some it's catharsis, for others a job.

For some it makes things better, for others it makes things worse.

For some it's a way to connect, for others a way to disconnect

For some it's all about the humour, for others it is deadly serious.

For some it's based on fact, for others it's based on fiction.

For some it's take it/leave it, for others it's a life.

Some bloggers vanish with out their readers ever learning where they went.

Some bloggers are hounded out.

Some bloggers run out of things to say.

Some bloggers still have plenty to say but find that others in the real world don't always like what that is.

Some bloggers get dispirited but then come back, better than ever.

Some bloggers just need a rest.

Some bloggers feel the need to alter their focus as time passes and will alter their blogs accordingly.

I love blogging, and I love reading other blogs. It reminds me of the pubbing days of old. Remember them?. When a bunch people would visit the local watering hole and chew the fat. Some would come in groups, some alone. Some would be regulars, others would drop in when they had the time. Sometimes a regular would drag along a new friend/partner/work mate. Other times a complete stranger would turn up and chat to you because they liked the cut of your jib and the tone of your conversation.

The dynamics would change all the time. Two friends would fall out and one would leave. Other times a couple would split and the original regular would disappear whilst the interloper would stay. New people would move into the area. others would move away. Some would join the pool team, the others would play darts. The landlord would retire and another would take his place. Bar staff would come, and bar staff would leave. Such was the nature of the pub.

There would be births, deaths and marriages. There would be christenings, wakes and receptions. There would be affairs, divorces, romances and punch ups. There would be verbal disagreements over everything from the price of a pint to who was in 10 Downing Street/the White House/ Number 23 Acacia Avenue, in fact there would be physical disagreements over everything from the price of a pint to who was in 10 Downing Street/the White House/ Number 23 Acacia Avenue.

These days the local pub is in decline(dead?). Something that was once the hub of the community and the melting pot of discussion has become obsolete. Those pubs that have survived, well, they are just too expensive for the average Joe. If you can afford the prices, chances are you are either, a Landlord, an alcoholic, a benefit scrounging alcoholic, an all expenses funded millionaire/politician or a vegetarian, anti smoking righteous twat that doesn't mind paying £8.70 for a wheat grass shake just so you can pontificate about how nice it is that your local pub (which you never, ever visited before) is now smoke free. That's progress for you. That's 2010.

30 years ago children were not allowed in pubs, they had to sit outside 'on the wall' with a bag of cheese 'n' onion and a tin of fizzy pop whilst their parents sat in side smoking, drinking and chewing the fat.

Today, your child can sit in the pub with a 'lo fat rice cake' and a glass of very expensive fizzy tap water (no pop allowed) that costs more than your half a lager, whilst you, the parent and the payer, will be forced, by law to sit 'on the wall' outside if you fancy a fag.

So where can the average Joe go these days when he/she fancies a smokey, drinkey, child free, chewing of the fat that he/she can afford.

Me thinks it's the blogs.

And just like the pubs of old, when a regular decides to leave or just vanish, it's always sad.
