"I cannot have public confusion between scientific advice and policy" says Home Secretary Alan Johnson MP.
Anyone would think a General Election was imminent! I had previously thought Alan Johnson may be a good replacement for Gordon Brown. How very very wrong I was! This latest decision of his is one of the most idiotic that this bankrupt government have made.
In effect, Professor David Nutt was sacked by the home secretary from his post as chair of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs. Prof. Nutt has been a hardworking and well respected member of the ACMD for over a decade. His pronouncements have always been backed up by evidence and research not the knee jerk reactions being plied by scared politicians.
In my opinion this is one of the more extreme examples of political correctness gone mad. I'll leave the last words for Chris Huhne:-
"The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs is simply not independent if its chair can be sacked for telling the Government what it does not want to hear.
"Ministers have constantly ignored the advice of experts when it comes to drug policies and pressed ahead with their own prejudices.
"If ministers care so little for independent scientific advice, they should save public money by sacking the entire group of experts and instead appoint a committee of tabloid editors."
