Local Councillors oppose new Tram Depot Site

September 3, 2009 10:10 PM

tower and tramSquires Gate Liberal Democrat Councillors Douglas Green and Robert Wynne have supported the residents opposition to the building of the new tram depots at Starr Gate. Instead of consulting residents about their proposals Blackpool Council have steamrollered them through.

Despite Robert and Douglas pressing for open meetings with the tramways department, no such meeting was arranged. The officers responsible would not even attend the Area Forum to discuss the issues.

Robert and Douglas believe they presented an inaccurate view of the residents objections to the proposals to the Council and then gave them only three minutes, between them, to answer all the points raised. The officers then had unlimited time to respond.

Now the Starr Gate Residents Association has now successfully applied for a judicial review of the Planning permission granted by Blackpool Council.

Because of the judicial review, the Council are having to postpone any further consultation until after the case is heard.
