I am very concerned that the various local health trusts are reducing health provision across the Fylde Coast. However they are getting good at spinning cuts as improvements in their communications with Councillors and the media.
My information is that all provision of minor operations will be cancelled at Lytham and Fleetwood hospitals. The Primary Care Trust has cancelled funding for thousands of planned day case operations, at a new twin theatre at Victoria Hospital. On Labour government instructions they will be offered instead to private service providers.
Local Liberal Democrats want to know how much money has been spent on this twin theatre, that will now be under used. We campaigned to save the nurse led ward at South Shore hospital. There are now reports that will be closed after all. Describing an existing similar provision at Bispham as a replacement will fool nobody.
Meanwhile they still refuse to say if they will re-open the perfectly good [and new] Rossall Hospital. These cuts are real and serious, and I will be calling for them to be referred to the Secretary of State for Health.
