Marton School Joint Statement

Written by Cllr. Jon Bamborough and published in News Release on Wed 9th Aug 2006

Commenting on the joint statement issued by the School Governors, the Local Authority and the National Association of Schoolmasters and Union of Women's Teachers (NASUWT), Cllr. Jon Bamborough, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats said:

"Now that the "ongoing staff issues" have been resolved, perhaps the LEA will begin to answer some of the dozens of questions posed by concerned parents of children at Marton School. One of the most important questions being how much this sorry affair has cost the local authority. I am reliably informed from scources within the LEA that the amount of money , plus the amount paid to the teachers (plural) is an astronomical amount in light of recent announcements of cuts in jobs and services within the LEA. The joint statement itself is a joke. Are the council tax payers of Blackpool really supposed to believe that a disciplinary process was held up for a year because of the musings of a few individuals? That doesn't say a lot for the highly paid teams of solicitors, senior officers, consultants, union officials, Acas and the Governors. This appears to be another example of noone in authority willing to take responsibility so lets make a scapegoat of out some concerned parents. It is a disgrace!!!
