Labour Party reject Park & Ride for Blackpool

Wed 9th Aug 2006

Local Labour Party Councillors do not think that we should encourage both visitors and residents to use our local trams, buses and taxis, and threw out a proposal supported by Liberal Democrat Councillors. Speaking afterwards Councillor Douglas Green said, "Obviously the Labour Party does not want to encourage visitors to use our transport system".

Louie Horrocks Park

Wed 9th Aug 2006

After many years of neglect by the Council, Squires Gate Ward Councillors, Robert Wynne and Douglas Green have now been able to allocate £38,500 to make the Park greener and more attractive. This work has seen new gates and fences and the old disused tennis courts removed and landscaped. There is much more to do, but already the park has won the prestigious national "Green Flag" award. A Friends of Louie Horrocks Park has now been formed and will soon obtain official recognition. Contact Robert or Douglas and they will pass on your name if you are interested in joining.

Quotes of the Week

"Liberalism in Britain has lost a great champion, the Liberal Democrats, a great advocate and our public life, a great servant."

Lord Paddy Ashdown

In memory of Lord Richard Holme, who died on 5 May

"If the Tories want to claim that they are going to cut corporation tax, they have to come clean about how they are going to pay for it. Cutting the main rate of corporation tax to 25% will cost more than £5bn a year. If David Cameron is to have a hope of sounding credible he must state clearly where the money will come from. Otherwise this will be seen as yet another unfunded tax cut."
